On the Russian political scene

Surprise: Garry Kasparov, the strongest chess player from the end of the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century, has just announced the end of his career at the age of 41.

One could imagine him as a young pensioner spending relaxing days with his wife and his children. But no, the King of the 64 squares has decided to embark on a political career.

His assets, his international notoriety, his strong will and contrary to Bobby the capricious, his exemplary image in many countries will, no doubt, help him to fulfil his ambition.

He has therefore thrown himself into the creation of a democratic party in Russia. However, nothing is clear-cut at this stage. In politics, contrary to chess, grandmasters don’t always make the best moves. The proof, during a recent meeting, Garry was hit with a chessboard by a so-called admirer…
